A Game of Two Halves

A Game of Two Halves

5th October 2018 0 U23 Team

Broadbridge Heath FC (U23) v Arundel FC (U23)

4th OCTOBER 2018 (7.45pm) @ Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre

This was literally a game of two halves, as the saying goes. The first half definitely belonged to Broadbridge Heath, with Lagin Riecker fizzing in a perfectly measure free kick that barely stung the Arundel ‘keeper’s left hand as it flew in. Heath played some nice football, spraying the ball around and passing well. The front players continued to put pressure on Arundel, resulting in a few mistakes by the visitors.

However, in the 2nd half the visitors flew out of the traps and put enormous pressure on Heath for most of the second half. A nervous back-pass by Arundel resulted in the visitors’ keeper stretching overhead to possibly prevent an own goal. The referee (rightly so) deemed this as a back pass handled by the keeper and awarded the home side a free kick right on the 6 yard box.  The free kick was taken, but trapped by an Arundel player who had not retreated the required 10 yards and came from behind the play to make the stop. Poor refereeing, and should have been a yellow card, with the kick being re-taken. However, it was not to be, and play was allowed to go on.

Some more dodgy refereeing decisions were greeted with curious glares all around, but it was Connor Evento in the Heath goal who spared the home side’s blushes by making some fine saves. However, the visitors got their due reward for their application with a deserved goal in this half.

Honours even, but the visitors could quite literally have nicked it.

HT 1-0.
