On Thursday the Under 18s travelled to play Southwick in the SCFL Youth West Division hoping to get back into winning ways but things don’t always go as hoped and despite scoring 3 goals, individual errors at the back cost them the game in a 4-3 defeat.
Heath started well and almost took the lead in the 10th minute when Lagin Riecker played a free kick from the right towards the far post where Kyle Sim powered a header towards goal which was cleared off the line. Two minutes later the early pressure paid off when a Heath corner from the left was headed back across the goal to Joe Humphries who bundled the ball across the line from close range.
Heath continued to press but were caught on the counter-attack in the 32nd minute when a long ball was played down the left, the danger should have been cleared but a slip in defence allowed the Southwick player to square the ball to a team-mate who tapped in from 6 yards. Things got worse for Heath minutes later when a long ball was played forward into the Heath penalty area where Chris Adshead tried to intercept with a header away but the ball flew off his head, past Conor Evento into the roof of the net to give the visitors an unlikely half-time lead.
Minutes into the restart it was 3-1, another long ball forward, this time down the left flank was collected by a Wickers forward who stepped inside a defender and blasted a right foot shot low across the goal into the bottom right corner.
Heath fought back and Tom Shergold reduced the deficit on 50 minutes slamming in a loose ball into the net following a goal-mouth scramble and the teams were level on the hour mark when Humphries was brought down in the box and Lagin Riecker converted the resulting penalty.
However any thoughts of victory were dispelled when another Southwick counter-attack in the 69th minute opened up the Heath defence again for a carbon-copy of the first goal.
