The Bears welcomed Lancing FC to the Leisure Centre on Saturday for the last match played from the old Leisure Centre building, with the building closing on Tuesday 16th with demolition following soon after and the new Leisure Centre opening on Saturday 20th October.
When the two sides met at Culver Road just 18-days earlier Heath were rampant and came away with a comfortable 4-0 victory which moved the side up to 6th in the division but since then results have been disappointing and the Bears came into the game on a run of four straight defeats.
There was little to talk about in the first 45 minutes with both defences in control of the play and very little goalmouth action, the best chance for Heath was on 11 minutes when Devon Fender whipped a right wing cross to Dean Wright who powered a header inches wide of the post and for Lancing a long ball forward was headed wide by Jon Lansdale.
The second half continued at the same tempo, Heath had a lot of play but rarely troubled the Lancing keeper Tyler D’Cruz who was protected by a solid defence who sat back and relied on the counter attack.
Heath’s best chance came when Tom Bold played a free kick into George Cousins who struck the ball well, but it was collected comfortably by D’Cruz and at the other end Jack Langford’s attempt to chip Kieron Thorp came to nothing as the keeper stretched to catch the ball.
With 15 minutes remaining a Tom Bold corner from the left was intercepted by a Lancing player at the near post and he immediately played the ball out wide to Jack Langford on the right. The Lancing forward ran three quarters of the length of the pitch with Dean Wright in hot pursuit. He then cut inside and shot under the advancing Kieron Thorp into the net to win the game for his team.
A disappointing result for the Bears who just couldn’t get their flowing football going and frustrated further with the sending off of Martyn Flack in the final minutes for a second caution of the match. He will now be missing along with Scott Weller and Charlie Pitcher who are all suspended for the trip to Peacehaven on Saturday.
