Broadbridge Heath 2-0 Eastbourne United

Heath welcomed relegation threatened Eastbourne United to Wickhurst Lane without the suspended Brad Peters and the ill Ryan Brackpool. Charlie Leach was unavailable and Tom Howard-Bold not yet fully recovered from his ankle injury. Andy Waddingham reverted to centre back to be partnered by Martyn Flack and Dean Wright proved what a good footballer he is by seamlessly fitting in at right back.

Heath started in a hurry and Devon Fender, George Cousins and Jamie Taylor all went close in the opening 10 minutes but having not made the breakthrough they gradually lost their way and the more direct approach of a well organised and hardworking United side started to push Heath back. On a bumpy surface Heath were struggling to pick out their front men and the visitors kept the reformed Heath back line busy without really testing Kieron Thorp in the home goal. The two sides fought out a goalless draw in the reverse fixture and as half time arrived a scrappy game looked like it was heading the same way.

Heath began the second half with a change of tactics and started to hit the channels rather than trying to pass their way up the pitch and the on 66 minutes this led to the opening goal Jamie Taylor beat the onrushing Hawkins to a through ball and as he moved to tap it in from a yard out, was brought down from behind and Fender stepped up to bury the penalty. Heath continued to press but with the score at 1-0 there was always the chance that Eastbourne, throwing on more forward players, could equalise and Heath had Kieron Thorp to thank when Pearson broke through and the Heath stopper saved with his feet.

Manager Steve Painter changed both wide men with Renato Carvalho and Louie Blake replacing Cousins and Doughty and it was Carvalho who was put through by Ollie Moore to square for Fender to hit his 15th league goal of the season and wrap the points up for Heath. The win maintains their excellent run and keeps them in the top six ahead of a blank weekend before the last 3 matches of the season.

Heath: Thorp, Wright, Robinson, Waddingham, Flack, Carney, Moore, Cousins(Carvalho), Fender, Taylor, Doughty(Blake), Unused Sub Dale
