The Under 23 team has really improved as the season’s gone by. They started off winning two matches with a very youthful team but then lost a few players before going six matches without victory. However since the turn of the year they have greatly improved and a run of eight matches without loss came to an end last Thursday when they lost narrowly 0-1 at home to East Preston with the visitors fielding no less than eleven players who played in their last first team match at Peacehaven & Telscombe. While Heath were without regulars Sam Truelove (suspended), Harry Balfour, Louis Bake, Mason Doughty and the Riecker brothers so it could have been a very embarrassing evening for the visitors had they not scored that 48th minute winner.
Elsewhere Mark Hawthorn has now left the Under 23 management team to take over his responsibilities for running next season’s Horsham Under 23 team and we wish him all the very best of luck in his new role; as long as he doesn’t try recruiting some of our players; but we’re delighted that Chris Simmons, the former Heath player and Billingshurst and Loxwood Manager has taken his place until the end of the season.
In their last match of the season the Under 23 play home to Selsey on Thursday evening 25th April, this will be the very last match played at the Leisure Centre not just for the 23’s for the club, and will we miss it? No way…..
